Summer Superball Spectacular

Posted in Uncategorized on August 5, 2008 by jsweetin

The official 2008 Voodoo Golf Tour came to a close at Cypress Landing CC on Friday and what a way to close the season. The course was in immaculate shape. The green ran smooth as silk but the rough was dangerous. You really paid a price for missing the fairway on this course.

After having a little lunch at the clubhouse grill…

Diggler and Club Smuggler Chowing

Diggler and Club Smuggler Chowing

we went to choose teams.

From a hat the teams were…

SHIRTS: Donnie, Ricky, Dan and Ray Heath.

against…

SKINS: Don, Ryan, Kris and Myself (Well…not really skins but Don and I had some people scared.)

Next came the rules…

Digs and Dan hamming out the rules

Each team member got 1 mulligan and 1 red tee on the front and on the back.
Closest to the pin on two of the par 3’s gets a “beverage”.

The Front Nine:

The Skins started off on fire with two quick birdies but ran into some problems and boggied holes 4, 5 & 6. (The rough was unforgiving.)

We got a stroke back on hole 8 but finished the front even with a boggie on 9.

The Shirts made no mistakes on the front. They birdied 1,4 and 9 to finish 3 under on the front.

The Back Nine:

The Skins team started to pull it together on the back. Diggler started a two in a row birdie rally with a 150+ bomb on the par 5 #17…see video

The Skins finished the back nine 2 under par…but we had a lot of fun.

#15 at Cypress Landing

#15 at Cypress Landing WOW!

The Shirts kicked the crap out of the skins on the back nine. With 5 birdies and 4 pars, they completed the butt whopping with a score of 8 under par.

But the Shot of the Week goes to Donnie “The Laser” Lee with a clutch putt on 18 while getting heckled by the peanut gallery.

The Final Superball Score:

Skins 70
Shirts 64

Diggler and The Big Head got the closest to the pin awards and a frosty “beverage”. :)

Everybody should thank Kris “The Commish” for all his calls this year for tee times and for keeping everybody straight.

Also, very big thank to Cypress Landing member Ray Heath for letting the Voodoo Tour stop in his course.

On Friday July 25th, the voodoo tour returned to Bradford Creek Golf Course.

The Commish, The Laser, Tea Time? and The Cannon rounded out the foursome.

Kris lead at the turn with a 41 followed by Wayne with a 45. Donnie right behind with a 46 and Rob with a 54.

Donnie tried to close the gap on the back nine but fell 2 strokes short. Kris complete a good round with a 85. Next, Donnie came in with a 87 and Wayne behind The Laser with a 90. The Cannon pull 4 strokes off his front nine score to end the day with a 104.

LAST OFFICIAL VOODOO TOUR STOP: Cypress Landing CC and…“SUPERBALL OF DEATH”! Well…not really death…but there may be heat stroke ….or at the very least sore muscles.

Maccripine host week 6 of Voodoo Tour

Posted in Uncategorized on July 21, 2008 by jsweetin

Maccripine Golf Course in Pinetops, North Carolina was the setting for last weeks stop in the 2008 Summer of Voodoo Golf tour! The greens were a little rough but the course was in great shape. With 7 duffers filling the ranks this stop, the tour never looked stronger.

Future PGA players warm up on the 1st tee at Maccripine.

Future PGA golfers warm up on the 1st tee at Maccripine.

The group this week was:
  • Dan “The Club Smuggler” Mayo,
  • Wayne “When is the tee time?” Coates,
  • Donnie “The Laser” Lee,
  • Rob “The Cannon” Conway,
  • Don “Diggler” Hazelwood,
  • Kris “The Commish” Anderson
  • and me
The hitter of the day was The Commish with a 80 on the day. So lets all give Kris a big round of golf “clap” for the effort…Boo :P
The Club Smuggler has not lost his swing, finishing with an 86. The Laser was close behind with a 90.
Wayne was little off his game coming in with a 95.
Next, coming in with a 96 was Diggler. I guess Diggs was tired was playing like an “Alice” and has been improving his game greatly in the past few outings.

The Cannon came in next with a 98 and has this weeks:

Shot of the Week!

Lastly, was the Big Head with a 106. That’s right…a 106. I played like sh*&! It must have been the new course…right!

Voodoo Tour Rain Delay at Ayden CC

Mental Handicap Day at Ayden CC

Mental Handicap Day at Ayden CC

The badly needed rain last Friday afternoon delayed the tour stop at Ayden CC until Sunday the 13th. It was a warm but nice day at Ayden with sunshine a plenty. The usual suspects took to the course on Sunday. Kris “The Commish” Anderson, Donnie ” The Laser” Lee, Jon “Big Head” Sweetin and Don “Diggler” Hazelwood.

In the front nine, The Commish (image left) shot a 43 which very impressive since it looks like he suffers from some sort of muscular disorder. :)

The Laser was tied with Kris at the turn with a 43, followed by Big Head with a 48. Lastly, but never least Digger closed out the front with a 51.

What are you talking about, I always hit big. Diggler

What are you talking about, I always hit big. Diggler

I guess Diggler decided if he could not score big he would hit big and that he did on the back nine. Digs blasted a drive off the 14th tee to within 20 yards of the hole. Don finished with a 52 on the back given him a 103 on the day.

The rest of the crew did pretty well too. The Commish shot a 41 on the back to give him a 84. The Laser was only 2 strokes behind Kris with a 86.

Of course, I shot a 50 in the back which gave me…you guessed it another freaking 98.

This is us having fun! (Can't you tell?)

This is us having fun! (Can't you tell?)

But we did have fun and had a great time.

It’s time for…SHOT of the WEEK!

This weeks video is of Digger hitting a Monster tee shot on “The Widow Maker”. (A.K.A. Number 18 at Ayden)

The Banshee arrives with a wale!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on June 30, 2008 by jsweetin

A hot Friday afternoon was the setting for Brian “The Banshee” Miller to make his season opener on the VooDoo tour. Many of the members were missing in action again this tour stop, but the The Commish and The Big Head rounded out the trio. Bradford Creek was the tour stop this week and the course was in GREAT shape. The fairways were woolly and the greens were lush.

On the front nine, The Commish was on fire, posting a 37.

The Commish in action:

I posted a respectable 46 on the front but Brian the Banshee had a tough front nine. With his 55, it was looking like a long afternoon for Miller.

You can never count The Banshee out. With a wale and a prayer, Brian ripped up the back nine to score a great 43 and a 98 on the day.

The Banshee in action:

Kris continued to play well but lost a few strokes on the back with a 43. This giving The Commish a 80! for the day.

As usual, The Big Head can never string the front and the back together. A disastrous of a 52 on the back gave me 98 on the day, which is exactly the same score I shot last week.

Next week, I think the tour is still on for the 4th of July at Ayden. Contact The Commish if you would like to play.

VooDoo Thin at Slow Playing Ayden CC.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on June 23, 2008 by jsweetin

The ranks of the VooDoo Tour were thin at the 2nd tour appearance at Ayden CC on June 20th. With only three players making an appearance, you would think the round would move quick. That was not the case. The course was packed with no marshal. The players making an appearance were The Commish, The “Laser” Lee and myself.

The font nine went well for the “Big Head” posting a 45 which tied me with Donnie’s at the turn but Kris close behind with a 47.

Kris was having none of that and posted a 42 on the back, followed by the “Laser’s” 45 and then me with a self-destructing 52. There were two “twitters” on the day. I had one on hole #4 and Kris followed with one on #17.

The final scores were:

The Commish = 89
The “Laser” = 90
Big Head = 97

Smoke get’s in your Eyes

Posted in Uncategorized on June 16, 2008 by jsweetin

The Hyde Co. fires made the beginning of the Voodoo tour stop in Farmville a little tough to see. On the drive over to Farmville, doubts about whether the smoke would clear were abundant.

It did clear and the weather was not that bad after all. The weather may not have been bad but the greens at Farmville looked as if they had the “Black Death”. There was more bare ground showing on the greens than grass and it was like putting through the Grand Canyon at times. The tour will not be visiting Farmville CC again until they get their greens worked out.

We had six golfers this week wade through the smoke and the teams were:

Team 1:

Dan “Club Smuggler” Mayo
Ryan “Jarhead” Willhite Jarhead at the Tee

Team 2:

Kris “The Commish” Anderson
Donnie “The Laser” Lee The Laser
Jon “Big Head” Sweetin Head too large for image!

Players, your tour cards have been updated.

Next week we are back at Ayden CC.

08 Tour starts off with a scorcher!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 12, 2008 by jsweetin

It was a blistering hot Friday on June 6th at Ayden CC the sitting for the season opener of the Voodoo Tour. There were six individuals who “Manned Up” and braved the heat for the love of the game. There was a completion on best score but to say the teams were unevenly matched would be an understatement. Team 2 spotted Team 1 10 strokes on the 10 toughest holes and Team 1 still lost. Well when you have “The Ringer” on your team you are tough to beat.

Team 1:

Don “Diggler” Hazlewood
Rob “The Cannon” Conway
Jon “Big Head” Sweetin

Team 2:

Kris ” The Commish” Anderson
Donnie ” The Laser” Lee
Bill “The Ringer” Lewis
